⚽ Big losses last night

16 July 2026

  • You can't be on your top game all the time.
  • If you can't make your strategy work, try another one.
  • Give it a go and see what happens.

These are ideas I teach to kids all week and just happen to be the ones I whipped out on myself yesterday.

I've had an outrageous ear infection which involved a hospital trip on Saturday night.

That fact = rubbish

England playing for 50% of my waiting time in A and E and me actually having remembered my charger = a massive silver lining.

Anyway, this isn't to get sympathy, but set the scene that I have been below capacity this week and have had to let many things drop.

Then it got to Wednesday.

No newsletter written.

No book even on my agenda.

Arghhh.

I did consider just not sending one.

But, I checked myself. My goal was to get an email to you mentioning books to help with keeping the kids busy and you sane over the summer holidays.

Maybe there was another way other than my normal approach. And there was.

I asked the Noisy Book Club community, and they came through!

So here are their recommendations.

You Choose but a colouring version! Yes please

I loved maze books as a kid!

A classic

So sweet. And great for keeping them busy on a park walk

There you go! I found a way.

PS Congrats on making it to the summer holidays if you have. Good luck if you are one of the ones still crawling your way into next week.
