'Mummy, do you think my painting is beautiful?'
'Miss, is my drawing good?'
'Becca, have I done it right?'
I have heard these questions so many times. And my answer is always, always the same: how does it feel to you? Do you think it's beautiful?
This is exactly why I love this week's book so much.
The Great Paint by Alex Willmore
Frog does not care that the other animals have no interest in what he's doing. He doesn't care that they're grumpy about it, or even mean. He just keeps going, loving every minute of it. Until he realises he is really annoying everyone else, even though his art is bringing him so much joy.
And THEN (bonus) he clocks that he's messed up. And he owns it, and figures out how to do better. Nice one Froggy.
Two excellent messages. One very funny frog.
Other people's opinions of your artwork are not the most important thing. I want every child to know that. And this is, essentially, what sparked the idea that has now become the I MAKE Studio I'm running with Laura from September.
Let's help them channel that Froggy energy and do what they love!
