I'm sending you this book this week. And it's going to help you with this moment. π
The one when you try to teach your kid something. And they're batting you away, insisting, 'Omg mum, I know how to do it, stop telling me!'
And they do it alone. Wrong.
And then they are annoyed that they got it wrong. And they're darting out of the room, trying to get away because they 'can't do it!'
And you're saying, 'I know you can't do it, that's why I'm trying to teach you how to do it!'
And now you are royally annoyed. And so are they.
Sound familiar? Then this book is for you.
You've Got This, Little Pangolin
Written by Tola Okogwu
Illustrated by Shirley Hottier
You've Got This, Little Pangolin is about a little pangolin (surprise!) who is desperate to be a big pangolin. He doesn't want to hang around and listen to what his mum has to say, he wants to try it all immediately, on his own. And he gets in a right pickle.
I used this story with a child this week, talking about the idea that we all have our own journeys. We aren't all immediately excellent at everything. It takes time and practise, and we get there when the time is right. The important thing is to keep chipping away, even when we are impatient and want to be good at all the things NOW.
