I'm sending you this book

Hey , I want to send you this week’s book.

Give me your address and I’ll get you in this week’s chain.

It took me years to understand how to really write end of year reports.

I was so baffled as to how I was supposed to show where kids were ‘at’.

And I used to feel really cross that I had to (literally) tick a box. I was cross that those boxes didn’t leave space to talk about the journey the kids had been on.

The kid who had refused to pick up a pencil for the entire month of September because he was so embarrassed about how little he could control it when he did.

The same kid who ended the year writing a two-page story, completely decipherable!

Or the girl who cried every time she was expected to do some work independently because she was so terrified about getting something wrong.

That same girl who, by summer, was happy to stand up in front of the class, point out her own mistakes in her poem and proudly declare why her first attempt hadn’t worked and how she’d made it better.

Those are the massive triumphs. The ones that the teacher sees, but doesn’t get a box for on the report.

There is so much more to our kids than the grades they are getting.

Let's celebrate that.

This week I’m sending you a book that does celebrate exactly that…

Maybe Hardback by Kobi Yamada Illustrated by Gabrielle Barouch

This book shows kids how to be empowered for who they are and who they have the potential to become.

It says all the things you think.

It says all the things you know, but which sometimes get overshadowed by school/grades/comparisons.

It's really good.

It made me cry.

Let me send it to you. Email back with your address.

Becca x

PS I have workshops and collaborations coming up for loads of the summer holidays. I'll let you know next week what the plan is!

Interested? Email me back and you'll get first dips.
